"Minimum wage in the EU – a battle won by everyone?"
In November 2025 the CJEU finally delivered its judgment in the case on the legality of the Adequate Minimum Wage Directive. The directive was subject to a heated debate already before it was adopted, but nevertheless the Court managed to deliver a judgement that has made both sides of the debate happy with the outcome. As Ankie Hartzén has previously concluded, the Court used the law to solve a politically sensitive issue. Does this mean that everyone wins?
In this seminar on minimum wage in the EU, Ankie Hartzén, senior lecturer and associate professor in Business Law at Lund University will present the case and discuss its outcome to provide some ideas on the CJEU’s ruling’s consequences for the future.
