10th anniversary of the Eastern Partnership Initiative
The Eastern Partnership will mark 10th anniversary this year. The initiative was launched in 2009 as a separate dimension of the European Neighborhood Policy, aiming to deepen and strengthen relations between the EU and its six Eastern neighbors. The initiative has delivered significant changes for the partner countries in terms of democratization, reforms and Europeanisation. Security, stability and prosperity in the region remains priority for Brussels. The EU is particularly committed to having solid framework of mutually beneficial cooperation with six neighboring countries.
On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of Eastern Partnership Initiative, Ambassador Gigiadze will explore the possibilities for the Eastern partners for further engagement with the EU. Focusing on a retrospective look into the future, he will evaluate the policy performance of the Eastern Partnership Initiative, the effectiveness of EU`s existing policy toolkit, and future prospects of cooperation of the EU with its neighbors to the east.
Short bio of the Ambassador
H. E. Mr. Gigi Gigiadze is Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to the Kingdom of Denmark and the Republic of Iceland since December 1st 2016. He is a career diplomat with two decade-long experience in the European affairs. Before his assignment to Denmark, he served as a Deputy Foreign Minister of Georgia and Chief Negotiator on the Visa Liberalization Action Plan (VLAP) with the European Union. He graduated with honors from the Tbilisi State University with a degree in International Relations.
